Will You Become the World Champion of Darkness?

The World Championships of Darkness are a friendly but fierce competition in World of
Darkness lore and related knowledge. On Saturday, May 13th, we will crown two World
Champions of Darkness in two categories.
​
The Digital World Champion will be the person, anywhere in the world, with the highest
ranking in the World of Darkness Quizima app at the cut-off time of noon CET, May 10th.
The World Champion of Darkness will be a participant at World of Darkness Berlin who
triumphs in the on-stage finals on Saturday.

How to Compete
​
To compete in the World Championships of Darkness you should download the World of
Darkness Quizima app in on Google or iTunes, register a username – don’t forget to give us
your email! – and start playing. Together with our partners at app maker Planeto, we will monitor
the back end to extract your overall ranking and identify the Digital Champion.
​
The highest-ranking players who are also participating in the World of Darkness Berlin
convention will be invited to take part in the thrilling on-stage Live Finals, conducted by the
exceptionally knowledgeable World of Darkness expert Dr. Syksy Räsänen. (If there are too
many very closely ranked potential finalists, we will ask you to sit a brief written exam in Berlin
to qualify for the Finals).
To enable more of the digital players to participate in the live finals, several lotteries will be
conducted among the top 20 players through the first week of May. Should lottery winners be
within convenient distance of Berlin, their convention ticket will be comped to ensure that they
too have a chance to participate in the Finals.

Head judge, World Championships of Darkness
Syksy Räsänen, adjunct professor of theoretical physics, has played in the World of Darkness on the tabletop and in larps for over two decades, and confesses to having consumed over two hundred White Wolf roleplaying books.
Dead Souls, his era-spanning Vampire-Risen-Changeling-Mage-Ananasi-Kuei-Jin-Solar-Abyssal-Infernal-Lunar-Alchemical-Spirit campaign is now in its 20th year. It follows the exploits of the eponymous goth band (with supporting roles from Marianna and Lysander, Horus, Del'Roh, Erembour and Luranume, among others).

When not at play, he is University Researcher at the Division of Particle Physics and Astrophysics of the Department of Physics at the University of Helsinki, as well as Project Leader of the Helsinki Institute of Physics Theory Programme Project Cosmology of the Early and Late Universe.
